Virat Kohli on Thursday took to social media to announce that he will be stepping down from his role as Indian captain in T20Is after the completion of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, citing workload management. He will continue to marshal the troops in Tests and ODIs.

Kohli took over the reins in the shortest format in 2017 with the supremely successful MS Dhoni relaying the baton. It will be the first time that Kohli will lead India in the ICC T20 World Cup. He has led the team to the final of the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy and the semi-final of the 2019 ICC World Cup in the past, but India haven’t been able to bring home silverware under his tutelage.
