Hashim Amla, now 38 years old, seemed to have lost nothing of his perfect technique as he and Ollie Pope batted out for a draw at the Oval on Wednesday. Playing Essex, the home side had been bowled out for just 161 after Essex put on a huge 439 all out thanks to a masterful 165 from Sir Alastair Cook. Surrey looked to be in huge trouble as the visitors enforced the follow on, but Pope’s 27 not out and Amla’s red-inked 34 rescued the fixture. Watching the South African great defiantly bat away the good balls, there is no wonder he accumulated over 9000 Test runs during a fabulous career.
