Some experienced campaigners missed out in South Africa’s 18-man extended squad for the 2021 T20 World Cup, announced on Thursday, 9 September. All-rounder Chris Morris, former captain Faf du Plessis, and veteran leg-spinner Imran Tahir missed the boat. Tahir and du Plessis, in particular, had quit other forms of the game with an eye on featuring in the upcoming World Cup. Temba Bavuma will captain a young Proteas side in the UAE that also featured Keshav Maharaj, the left-arm spinner who is yet to get his maiden T20I cap.
