Another England star off to the BBL as Brisbane Heat seek batting depth

Ben Duckett, Nottinghamshire’s top-order batsman who has featured in all three formats for England, has signed for the Brisbane Heat, according to reports from ESPNcricinfo. Duckett is expected to appear in the 2021-22 BBL from its starting date, December 5, and will make his full debut in the competition after previously being around the Hobart Hurricanes on a UAE tour.

The head coach of the Heat, Wade Seccombe, talked of Duckett as something a little different for the side to benefit from, adding a left-handed option to the top order. Despite an already illustrious career in limited overs cricket in England, the Heat are excited about the potential that the 26 year old still has in the global game.

The decision was no doubt influenced by Duckett’s excellent form in the inaugural season of the Hundred, held earlier this summer in England. Playing for the Welsh Fire, Duckett came second on the list of most individual runs scored only to the irrepressible Liam Livingstone, plundering 232 as he dominated the opening stages of the tournament.
