Chris Woakes was dismissed by Umesh Yadav on the stroke of tea on day five at the Oval, chipping to an awaiting mid-wicket. It capped a match-winning session for India, in which they reduced England from 141-2 to 193-8. England again showed their tendency to collapse in dramatic fashion, and India their penchant for riding an emotional wave of form. The atmosphere was electric at the Oval as the visitors' fans made all of the noise, with the majority of the England crowd looking forlornly into the distance as another defeat beckoned.
