(Video) On this day in 2016: England smash the world record

On this day five years ago, England broke the world record One Day International total for the first time against Pakistan, smashing 444/3 from their 50 overs. Runs came from the now snubbed Alex Hales, who hit 171 off 122 balls at the top of the order, and a remarkable 90 not out off 51 deliveries from Jos Buttler.

Joe Root anchored the innings in typically serene style, easing to 85 off 86 balls, and Eoin Morgan contributed with a fifty of his own to take England towards white-ball immortality. They would, of course, go on to break their own record, and this was an indication of how much the group would go on to achieve over the subsequent four years.
