Why watch the Hundred when you can see Cheteshwar Pujara eat up a century of deliveries by himself? The India number three was fighting to find some sort of form at Lord’s on Sunday afternoon, and raised a huge cheer at Lord’s as his 100th delivery was brought up, yielding a somewhat unproductive 12 runs.
India will nonetheless be hugely grateful to Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane, whose relative immobility on the scoreboard took some of the sting out of the game in the afternoon session. England had dominated the morning and India were wobbling having lost three wickets for a slender lead. It is the fourth time since the start of last year’s Australia tour that Pujara has not scored a boundary off his first 100 balls faced.
