Deepti Sharma, India’s 23-year-old all-rounder, has been playing for London Spirit in this year’s women’s Hundred, setting up home cap at Lord’s. The superstar made more history at the Home of Cricket on Sunday, as she was asked to do the honours of ringing the bell to indicate the remaining five minutes before play. It being India’s Independence Day, this was a particularly poignant moment, with one of the country’s great hopes embodying all that is good about modern cricket, and indeed modern India.
🔔 A pleasure to welcome @Deepti_Sharma06 to ring the five-minute bell at Lord’s this morning.#LoveLords | #ENGvIND pic.twitter.com/0ze3UzH5DK
