Mohit Sharma is set to join the Chennai Super Kings as the teamβs new bowling coach. The 38-year-old, who has formerly played four seasons for the five-time winners, will take over the role from Eric Simmons, who served in that capacity under former head coach Stephen Fleming.
Chennai Super Kings won the last of their five championships in 2023 and have failed to qualify for the knockout stage in each of the last three seasons, resulting in the team parting ways with their long-standing head coach Fleming earlier this year.
Mohit, who earned eight T20I caps for India, played in the IPL as recently as the 2025 season before announcing his retirement from all forms of the game in December last year. He represented CSK on 48 occasions in the IPL with 10 more appearances coming across two seasons of the now-defunct Champions League T20.
After Zaheer Khan took over as the head coach of the yellow army, changes to the support staff was par for the course with the franchise management handing him the responsibility to pick his own contingent. βZaheer Khan is picking his own support staff and he has zeroed in on Mohit for the bowling coach role,β CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said.
