‘I wish more people watch this knock’ – Anmolpreet Singh speaks his heart out after match-winning 133 for Mohali Kings

The hosts Mohali Kings defeated the Amritsar Soormas by a margin of 5 wickets in the inaugural clash of the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League 2026.

The game was played at the PCA IS Bindra Cricket Stadium in Mohali. After winning the toss, Kings’ skipper Ramandeep Singh asked the visitors to bat first in the humid conditions of Mohali.

Batting first, Soormas posted a big total of 258 runs before getting bundled out in 19.5 overs. Soormas’ skipper Abhishek Sharma smashed 77 runs off just 26 balls, alongside Sahaj Dhawan’s 45 off just 18 balls, and Naman Dhir’s 22-ball 47.

The Soormas got a blistering opening start by the opening pair of Abhishek and Sahaj. The Abhishek-Sahaj duo added 100 runs off just 34 balls for the first wicket. The partnership ended when Abhishek was caught behind the wickets by Rajinder Singh Devgan off Harpreet Brar.

For Mohali Kings in the first innings, Tejpreet Singh claimed 3 wickets for 38 runs in his four overs, alongside two wickets each picked by Tanmay Dharni and the senior spinner, Harpreet Brar. 

Anmolpreet Singh’s swashbuckling ton guides Mohali Kings to a comfortable chase 

While chasing the target, Mohali Kings faced an early blow in Manpreet Singh, who Naman Dhir caught off Abhishek in the first over of the innings. However, the Kings didn’t take long to recover, with a 62-run partnership for the second wicket between Gurmehar Singh Sra (26 off 12 balls) and Anmolpreet Singh.

After Gurmehar Singh fell prey to Akash Pandey, the incoming number four batter Aryan Bhatia was dismissed on a silver duck (0 off 2 balls) in the same over.

Then came the moment when Ramandeep came in the middle and stitched a match-defining partnership of 151 runs off just 70 balls. This partnership was graced by Anmolpreet’s match-winning century, who smashed 133 runs off just 51 balls, with 10 fours and 12 sixes.

Anmolpreet’s ‘knock of the day’ was ended by Mayank Markande, who got the batter caught by Abhay Choudhary.

Eventually, the Kings chased down the 259 -run target in 19.2 overs, scoring 262 runs for the loss of 5 wickets.

Meanwhile, after this high-scoring thriller concluded, the Mohali Kings’ star of the day and player of the match, Anmolpreet, also spoke his heart out during an exclusive conversation with Umesh Sharma.

“Actually, I have played this kind of knock earlier, but those didn’t get that much exposure and were not live. But I would say this is the best knock, as it was watched by many people; I wish, and I will feel lucky if people get to watch this knock,” said the 28-year-old batter who has represented SRH and MI in IPL in a handful of games.

“Actually, Didn’t think anything exactly like that, but when we knew about the big target, we were planning that the powerplay would be the best phase to attack, considering only two fielders outside the circle. I was also backing my instincts. I kept telling my batting partners in the top order that ‘we need to give a good start’, and we got it after losing the 1st wicket early at 7, followed by a 62-run partnership for the 2nd wicket, but the third one fell in quick succession,” he said while mentioning the early losses for the Kings.

“Then Raman came in, and everything went well,” he added while praising Ramandeep.

Furthermore, Anmolpreet also revealed his conversation with his captain in the middle. 

“Nothing specific or special; we were simply doing the calculations like 13 to 14 or 15 runs per over; in other words, two or three shots per over. Also decided an important thing like, ‘when one will hit, the other will hold.’ This was the entire calculation we decided among us,” he added.
