Young left-hander Abishek Porel, who represented Bengal and Delhi Capitals, has been arrested in a sexual assault case. He was taken into custody by the Hooghly police, and charged with rape, sexual assault and criminal intimidation.
Porel, who has featured in 32 first class and 35 IPL games, has been accused by a medical student of exploiting her sexually on the false pretext of marriage. The case relates to a complaint in June by the alleged victim.
After his arrest on Monday night, Porel was produced before a court on Tuesday, August 11, and remanded to a three-day police custody, as reported by Cricbuzz. The police seized his mobile phone to prevent circulation of photographs of the complainant, the publication added. It also learned that Porel is booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita section and Information Technology Act.
