Toby Albert bashed six sixes from as many deliveries, spread across two overs, as he powered Hampshire to a formidable total of 383/9 in their Metro Bank One-Day Cup match against Sussex at Hove.
It was Hampshire’s second-best score in List A cricket, eclipsed only by their 396/5 against Kent at Beckenham in 2022, and equalled the top score in the competition this season. It also brought them their fourth win, and kept their knockout hopes alive.
Sussex chased with great gusto, led by Charlie Tear’s sublime 94-ball 111, but eventually fell short by 51 runs. It was their sixth defeat in seven matches in this competition.
It is interesting to note that the 200 came up from 189 deliveries for Hampshire and there was no acceleration until Albert’s brutal 86 from 37 balls, laced with five fours and eight sixes, even though he was shambolically dropped on 21.
