This video of Danish Kaneria, the former Pakistan leg-spinner, attempting to sledge the great Brian Lara will have provided a lesson to bowlers of and after its time. Kaneria bowls a googly to Lara, which the West Indies legend plays straight back to him. The leggie sarcastically said ‘well played Brian’, taking the time to wonder up the wicket – a decision made even more perplexing by the fact that the Windies found themselves 259-2.
Lara simply nodded, replying ‘okay sir’, clearly deciding that it was time to put Kaneria safely back in his box. He did exactly that, smashing the next three deliveries for six with his typical grace and control. He eventually took 26 from the over, and the Pakistan captain no doubt had his head in his hands. A harsh lesson indeed.
