India buried West Indies under an avalanche of runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad as KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel and Ravindra Jadeja hit hundreds to push India’s lead to 286 by end of the second day’s play. This is the third time in 2025 where India have boasted of three centurions in a single innings. At stumps the scorecard read an ominous 448/5, with the visitors running the risk of being outbatted from the contest.
After Rahul and Shubman Gill carried India past the West Indies’ first-innings total by drinks, a chance to send the former packing came along. However, when Jayden Seales eked out an outside edge, first slip was stationed slightly wide so the ball bisected him and the keeper. Gill was in sublime touch during his essay, bringing up his eighth half-century in Tests.
Left-arm spinner Kharry Pierre, who had bowled from round the stumps hitherto, switched sides with the aim to exploit the footmarks outside the leg stump. The line was also beneficial in trying to stem the flow of runs. Rahul blocked a couple of deliveries and then executed a pre-meditated reverse sweep. When Gill followed suit against Roston Chase in the next over, who was bowling from round the stumps, he ended up nicking the ball to first slip. The dismissal against the run of play allowed West Indies an opportunity to recalibrate their plans and apply the brakes. Towards the end of the session, though, Rahul reached his 11th Test hundred, and only second at home.
Post-Lunch India fancied the idea of regaining their scoring velocity. Jomel Warrican elicited a false shot from Rahul thanks to a tossed up delivery but Ravindra Jadeja and Jurel stuck to the aggressive template. Jurel pulled Chase for the first six of the game over deep square leg while Jadeja gave Warrican the charge to hammer two sixes over long on in the same over. The two batters were on a constant lookout for scoring avenues as India’s lead swelled.

Chase reintroduced Jayden Seales into the attack before the new ball was due, hoping to see some reverse swing. It didn’t prove to be the case as Jadeja and Jurel consolidated India’s lead to 112 at drinks in the second session. With variable bounce and random sharp turn making life a bit difficult for the hosts, Chase saw merit in continuing with the old ball and his spinners. Warrican switched ends but Jadeja was on song regardless. He hit a fourth six – each over long on, all against Warrican, to take his sixes tally (79) past MS Dhoni’s in Tests. Only Rishabh Pant (90), Virender Sehwag (90) and Rohit Sharma (88) have cleared the ropes more often in the format among his countrymen.
After taking the new ball in the 98th over, West Indies managed to tie India up for an extended period of play in the final session but still their toil remained fruitless. Jurel brought up his maiden Test century in the latter half of the final session, proving his mettle in Pant’s absence. He stroked 15 fours and three sixes in his 210-ball 125 before Kharry Pierre had him caught behind. However, three overs later, Jadeja accomplished three-figures. He concluded the day as India’s second highest scorer in Tests in 2025, overtaking Rahul.
