Fresh off a solid Hundred, Cox punches ticket to Ireland tour

Cox was the highest run getter of the recently concluded The Hundred.

Jordan Cox has been rewarded for his recent exploits with a berth in the England T20I squad for their Ireland tour later this month. The 24-year-old has been added as the 15th member in the squad that will play three T20Is in Dublin between September 17-21. You can place your bets during the series at non GamStop sports betting.

He finished as the leading run-getter in the recently concluded Hundred where he was the only player to tally over 300 runs. With his side Oval Invincibles laying their hands on the silverware once again, Cox was also named the player of the tournament.

He made his debut for England last year in the home series against Australia, featuring in a couple of T20Is and later travelled to the West Indies where he made his ODI bow. Cox’s chances of adding to his caps look promising especially with England affording rest to some of their first choice players for the tour. Young all-rounder Jacob Bethell will be in charge of the team.

After a solid Hundred campaign, Cox will be keen to translate his performances at the international level.

“Jacob Bethell has impressed with his leadership qualities ever since he has been with the England squads and the series against Ireland will provide him with the opportunity to further develop those skills on the international stage,” England men’s selector Luke Wright was quoted in a statement from England Cricket, as per the official website of ICC.

Bethell, 21, is set to become the youngest England men’s team captain. The record currently belongs to Monty Bowden, who led England at 23 years old and 144 days in a Test against South Africa in Cape Town back in 1888/89.

Cox was originally picked in the side to face Zimbabwe at home recently before an abdominal muscle injury that he picked up while batting against Somerset in the County Championship ruled him out of the one-off Test. James Rew, the 21-year-old Somerset batter, was drafted in the England squad for what was the first Test against Zimbabwe on English soil since 2003.
