Ecclestone, Bouchier, Kemp absent in Sciver-Brunt’s first series as captain

The England and Wales Cricket Board has announced the England Women’s squads for the white-ball series against the West Indies which commences on May 21. The three-match T20I series, which precedes a three-match ODI series, will be Nat Sciver-Brunt’s and Charlotte Edwards’ maiden assignment as England’s full-time captain and head coach respectively.

Alice Davidson-Richards and Emma Lamb have returned to England’s ODI squad while Sophie Ecclestone, who recently made a competitive comeback following a knee injury, hasn’t healed enough to feature in this series. Freya Kemp, Lauren Filer and Danielle Gibson also miss out due to their respective injuries. Maia Bouchier, who played in the Ashes, is another notable omission.

“Following her knee injury, Sophie Ecclestone is physically not quite at 100% yet. She’s been rehabbing and working hard but she’s only just got back on the park for Lancashire so she doesn’t have enough cricket under her belt to be ready for this series” said head coach Charlotte Edwards.

Charlotte Edwards was unveiled as England Women’s new head coach back in April while Nat Sciver-Brunt replaced Heather Knight at the helm after the latter was shown the exit following a bevy of poor results. Lydia Greenway has become the latest of the ECB’s high-level appointees having been named as England Women’s new National Selector and is said to have had a role in these selections.

“We are really excited for the summer ahead. Our first priority is to win games of cricket. That’s how we’re judged and that’s our first aim, starting with this white-ball series against West Indies.”
