Rob Andrew and ECB throw their weight behind County Cricket Day

Cricket enthusiasts across the UK are gearing up for the return of County Cricket Day, a campaign to celebrate County Cricket. After last year’s successful campaign saw widespread support and bumper attendances, an extra day has also been added this year to support the fast-growing women’s game.

This initiative aims to draw as many people as possible to enjoy in person a men’s Rothesay County Championship game on Sunday 29 June and a Vitality Blast women’s game on Sunday 6 July.

Rob Andrew and the ECB get on board this year

For the first time, the initiative is endorsed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), which is encouraging all Professional County Clubs to support the campaign. Conceived by cricket fans, County Cricket Day promotes the importance of affordable and accessible cricket while giving fans a chance to support their counties.

Rob Andrew, Managing Director Professional Game at the ECB enthused: “We are pleased to support the team at County Cricket Day in their efforts to attract more supporters to watch county cricket on Sunday 29 June and  Sunday 6 July. They did a great job in the first year of their campaign last summer and with the men’s and women’s professional county games aligned for the first time this year it’s a fantastic opportunity for fans old and new to make sure they’re there in person to get behind their teams and enjoy some fantastic cricket.”

County Cricket has always been deeply rooted in local communities, providing a relaxed environment where anyone, seasoned fan or someone new to the game, are welcomed.

This season also sees the introduction of the new Tier structure in women’s cricket built around the County Cricket set-up, alongside the continuing professionalization of the game.

Alex Wilson, co-organizer of County Cricket Day, said, “We were overwhelmed by the support for last year’s County Cricket Day, and we’re excited to be going bigger and better with an extra day for women’s cricket this year. People are hungry for a sports experience that’s accessible, affordable, and rooted in their local communities. County Cricket provides that in spades, and County Cricket Day is a great excuse to make some noise around this brilliant form of the game.”

Whether you are an amateur cricketer, a dedicated fan, or someone experiencing live cricket for the first time, County Cricket Day promises a joyful and memorable day out for everyone. Mark your calendars and be part of this exciting initiative.

 About County Cricket Day:

County Cricket Day is a fan-driven campaign created to celebrate County Cricket. Inspired by Non-League Day, which has successfully encouraged football fans to attend lower league games and helped revitalise the sport at that level, this initiative aims to bring the same enthusiasm and support to this format of cricket.
