James Vince has often been accused of flattering to deceive in his career, but anyone who has watched him in the middle will be well aware of his class. Particularly in domestic white-ball cricket he has often looked at a different level to the rest, and he and Quinton de Kock were too much for the Welsh Fire on Wednesday night.
Vince hit 53 off 39 deliveries, including six 4s and one 6, in the Brave’s comfortable chase of 145. The knock, as Vince’s contributions tend to do, lent itself to lovely, languid cricket shots plucked from a purist’s textbook, and was well summed up by the way the skipper brought up fifty, giving himself some room to caress the ball into a gap over cover for two. It was his second half-century of the tournament.
