Pace-bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur has been drafted in by Lucknow Super Giants as a replacement for Mohsin Khan for Indian Premier League 2025. Mohsin has been ruled out of this season due to injury. He suffered an ACL tear and last featured in a competitive game in late 2024.
Shardul, who did not find any takers at the auction, was picked at his base price of INR 2 crore from the Registered Available Player Pool (RAPP) following some all-round brilliance in the domestic season on return from an ankle injury. He has an experience of 95 IPL games, picking up 94 wickets and contributing with his hitting lower down the order, including a highest score of 68. He has previously represented Punjab Kings, Rising Pune Super Giants, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders.

Having gone unsold in the auction, Thakur had signed a deal with Essex to play seven County Championship games during the initial half of the 2025-26 season, all of which are scheduled to be played in April and May this year. As a result of his IPL commitments, he won’t be able to honor his County commitments.
