Harry Brook runs the risk of two-season ban after pulling out from IPL 2025

Harry Brook tons up.

England wunderkind Harry Brook has pulled out of the Indian Premier League 2025, citing the need to focus on preparation for his commitments with the national team. The youngster was bought by Delhi Capitals for INR 6.25 Crore in the mega auction in November. This is the second time in a row that Brook has withdrawn from the IPL and now runs the risk of facing a two-season ban from the competition.

According to a new rule put in place by the IPL, “Any player who registers in the player auction and after getting picked at the auction, makes himself unavailable before the start of the season, will get banned from participating in the tournament and player auction for 2 Seasons.”

The rule, however, allows leeway to players being ruled out due to injuries or medical conditions. However, Brook absence won’t fall in that category. In a statement put out on his social media accounts Brook announced, “It is a really important time for England cricket and I want to fully commit to preparing for the upcoming series. In order to do this, I need time to recharge after the busiest period in my career to date.

“I know not everyone will understand, and I don’t expect them to, but I have to do what i believe is right, and playing for my country remains my priority and focus.”

Last season, Brook backed out of Delhi Capitals’ campaign because of a bereavement and has featured in a single IPL till date – in 2023 with Sunrisers Hyderabad.
