Hello and welcome to our live blog covering the second game for Bangladesh and New Zealand. Today’s encounter will be at Rawalpindi. Bangladesh tasted defeat in their first match against India while the Kiwis upset the hosts Pakistan in their first game. With a win today, New Zealand could confirm their place in the semis and knock Bangladesh and Pakistan out of the tournament.
Some changes to the Bangladeshi team as Mahmadullah comes in as well as Nahid Rana. New Zealand have kept the same side except for Rachin Ravindra coming in. The news from the middle is that the Blackcaps have won the toss and opted to bowl.
New Zealand stroll to victory at Rawalpindi! Great all round performance by the Blackcaps today. Clinical with the ball and clear minded with the bat. Ravindra was the star player for today’s match with his match winning ton. Bracewell chipped in with 4-fer to trouble the Bangla batsmen.
That signals Pakistan’s exit from their own tournament. New Zealand and India will top the group and will fight it out amongst themselves for the top spot in Group A. Bangladesh also exit the tournament with their encounter against Pakistan becoming a dead rubber now. These are the two remaining matches in Group A. Tomorrow we will be back for Australia vs South Africa. Till then, Auf wiedersiehen!
Great piece of fielding by the veteran Mahmudullah! A nice pickup, load up and the throw was on point by him. That ends Latham’s knock, a well made 55 runs.
New Zealand are 214/5 and require 23 runs to win.
Latham’s fantastic tournament continues as he bags consecutive 50s! It came handy for New Zealand as along with Ravindra, Latham kept the the scoring rate up and did not allow Conway’s dismissal to affect the batting.
New Zealand are 208/4.
Ravindra falls, finally! The southpaw in the process of finishing the game early, finds the substitute fielder Emon. A wicket for Bangladesh, but it might be too little too late.
New Zealand need 35 runs to win.
Ravindra reaches his 100. A gem of an innings played at Rawalpindi. He has reached it in rapid pace as well, scoring it off just 95 balls. He has probably won New Zealand the game here, not what Pakistani supporters were hoping for.
New Zealand are 180/3.
After Conway’s dismissal, Ravindra has found ample support from Latham’s bat. In this process the leftie has past his 50 run mark. The pair have amassed 56 runs and look really solid.
New Zealand are 128/3.
What a bizarre dismissal! An ordinary delivery by Mustafizur, which Conway defends but the ball hits the inside edge, drops and rolls onto the the stumps. Finally the breakthrough comes for Bangladesh.
72/3 New Zealand.
After losing two important wickets, Conway and Ravindra have stopped the rot and got New Zealand back on track. Ravindra in particular is looking in great touch. Some expansive and lavish drives have come off his bat.
New Zealand are 54/2
Wow, Bangladesh are really back into this game! Big blow for New Zealand as Williamson nicks one to Mushfiqur off Rana. New Zealand in a spot of trouble.
19/2 New Zealand
Taskin knocks Young over! What a start for him and Bangladesh! Wicket maiden to begin this innings.
New Zealand are 0/1
Will Young and Devon Conway are out for New Zealand to get the chase underway. Taskin Ahmed with the new ball, let’s see what happens in this innings.
Bangladesh finish on 236/9 in their 50 overs. Losing 5 early wickets they look destined to be restricted to a very low total. But they had some revival via Shanto, Rishad and Jaker Ali. Still it is New Zealand’s game to win. Perfectly executed their plans and they will be confident about chasing this total.
Taskin goes for hoik against Jamieson but chops it to long on. Conway takes the catch and never has there been an easier catch for him.
Bangladesh 236/9.
Jaker Ali’s impressive knock comes to an abrupt end. In a bit to get himself back on strike he has run himself out. A good throw by Latham, the wicketkeeper. Still a valuable contribution by Jaker Ali, scored some priceless runs.
Bangladesh are 232/8.
Rishad’s cameo comes to an end. Henry finally gets a wicket. Banged into the pitch, Rishad has a hack at it but finds the hands of the Kiwis’ skipper Santner.
Bangladesh are 196/7.
Batting down the order, Rishad has come out blazing. Some great shots on display. Much needed runs for Bangladesh here. Surely they will look to get around 230/240 from this position.
Bangladesh are 193/6.
Bangladesh’s lone warrior falls! The pull shot betrays him in the end. Shanto had been so strong off the backfoot and the pull shot today but he mishits one in the air and Bracewell covers some ground to catch the ball. A real captain’s innings today from Shanto. The only batter who showed some game awareness within the Bangladeshi camp.
Bangladesh are 165/6.
What is happening here! Bangladesh are loosing their heads here, especially the veterans. Mahmadullah tries to up the ante again, against Bracewell, splices it to O’Rourke who makes amends for a dropped catch early on in the match. That is 4 four Bracewell! This is seriously poor from Bangladesh.
Bangladesh are 119/5.
50 for the captain! With the team capitulating around him, he has shown the mettle to stick around and score a few runs. There are some more runs left to be scored though. 8 boundaries in this innings for Shanto.
Bangladesh are 112/4.
That is most unlike Mushfiqur! Such vast experience but decides to get out in the most frustrating fashion. Bracewell gets his third of the match. Mushfiqur tries to get the game going but Ravindra takes the catch in deep mid wicket.
Bangladesh are 108/4.
Bracewell keeps taking wickets! Hridoy tries to up and over covers but Williason shows great athletic ability to cover the ground and take the catch. Certainly not the easiest one yet. That is Williamson’s second catch of the match. Mushfiqur comes in for Bangladesh now.
99/3 Bangladesh.
This time its O’Rourke! Santner takes the catch this time to dismiss the new batter Miraz. Two quick wickets for New Zealand.
66/2 Bangladesh.
In a powerplay going against them, New Zealand find a way to make inroads! Bracewell pushes one up to Tanzid who splices it Williamson at mid wicket. That is the first one for New Zealand.
45/1 Bangladesh.
Players are out in the middle with Tanzid and Shanto opening the batting for Bangladesh. Santner throws the ball to Matt Henry to open the Kiwis’ innings. Game on!
