The Bangladesh Cricket Board announced that proficient all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz will serve as the team’s vice-captain in ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The Asian Tigers will depart for Dubai on January 13 to prepare for their campaign opener, scheduled against favorites India on February 20. Next up, Bangladesh will head to Pakistan for their remaining Group A games against New Zealand and the hosts on February 24 and 27, respectively.
The 27-year-old Mehidy bowls off-spin and bats lower down the order, having played 103 ODIs for Bangladesh and recently led the team in West Indies in the injury-enforced absence of regular skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto.
Meanwhile, the BCB announced that pacers Khaled Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud will accompany the squad to Dubai for training: Pacers Hasan Mahmud and Khaled Ahmed will travel to Dubai on Saturday to train with the Bangladesh Champions Trophy squad. The bowlers will return home following Bangladesh’s opening match of the tournament against India in Dubai on February 20,” the BCB said in a statement on Thursday.
