The Indian selectors have named the in-form Varun Chakaravarthy in the final Champions Trophy 2025 squad, with the spinner replacing Yashasvi Jaiswal who was part of the initial squad. Varun was on song in the T20I series against England recently and was thus included in the ODI setup as well at the last moment. With 14 scalps in the five-match T20I series, Varun topped the wicket charts. He made his ODI debut in the second match against England, finishing with figures of 1-54.
Meanwhile, Jaiswal is now one of the non-travelling substitutes along with Mohammed Siraj and Shivam Dube, and the three players will travel to Dubai on an ad hoc basis. In what comes as a hammer blow to the favourites, pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the 2025 Champions Trophy, with Harshit Rana stepping into the side as a replacement.
India, who are in Group A, begin their Champions Trophy campaign against Bangladesh on February 20. Their next fixture is against Pakistan on February 23, while they’ll lock horns against New Zealand in their final Group game on March 2, with all three games being conducted in Dubai.
