Lauren Bell and Filer managed to hang on for over ten overs, making it hard for Australia, but in the end, the hosts had too much firepower. King picked up her fifth of the innings, her ninth of the match, and Australia won by an innings and 122.
Australia make history by becoming the first team to achieve a whitewash in the multiformat era.
And all this happened in front of a record-breaking crowd of 35,365 over the three days at the MCG.
The first ever whitewash in multi-format Ashes history!
Fittingly it’s Alana King who takes the final wicket and Australia sweep England 🙌 pic.twitter.com/lziXvweaY7

Gardner has just bounced out Ecclestone. I repeat, Gardner has just bounced out Ecclestone.
When it rains, it pours and at the moment it is flooding for England.
Gardner throws in a surprise bouncer which Ecclestone looks to cart into the leg side, but the extra pace means the ball skips through and a mistimed shot loops into the hands of King.

Ryana MacDonald-Gay is unable to put away a full toss from King, instead picking out Darcie Brown on the cow corner boundary.
Australia require two wickets to whitewash England, who still trail by 148…
The worst ball Alana King has bowled in forever gets a wicket!

The thinnest of edges is the undoing of Amy Jones. Gardner picks up her third. The ball skids on and a good take behind the stumps leaves England in deep trouble at the interval.
Australia just three wickets away from an #Ashes whitewash!

Beaumont had batted so well up to that point but dangles her bat outside off and inside edges the ball onto her own stumps. A disappointing way to end a decent innings.
King picks up her third of the day and within a few balls of bowling to Ecclestone, looks like she could easily match, if not better, her first innings.
Beaumont chops on!

Wyatt-Hodge looks to sweep off Gardner but picks out Brown at short-fine leg for another tame dismissal. She makes just two in the end as she struggled to get going.
Alana King does her best impression from the Shane Warne end and Sophia Dunkley cannot do anything about that.
It drifts in, grips on the surface, spins past the edge and takes out off stump. A thing of beauty from the leggie.
England are in trouble now. They still trail by 166.
MAGIC from Alana King 🪄

The ball after England bring up their team ton, Alana King gets Nat Sciver-Brunt LBW. She reviews it but hawk-eye shows three reds and the England star is on the way back to the changing room.
Ash Gardner gets the crucial breakthrough just before drinks. The England captain props onto the front leg and turns the ball around the corner, into the hands of Phoebe Litchfield at short leg.

A huge cheer erupts around the ground as Alana King is thrown the ball for her first over of the day. She took a fantastic four-fer in the first innings to help bundle England out, including the key wickets of Dunkley, Wyatt-Hodge and Sciver-Brunt.
King strikes Knight on the pad twice, causing two huge cries of “How’s that?” But both are turned down by the umpire and neither are sent upstairs. Replays show the first likely pitched outside leg, while the second turned too much.
Consecutive boundaries for Heather Knight brings up both the fifty for England and then the fifty partnership between her and Tammy Beaumont.
First, she dismissively pulls Sutherland for four before guiding the next ball through covers. Both skip away to the rope.
England make it to tea without losing another wicket. Beaumont (16*) and Knight (8*) have batted sensibly without offering any opportunities. The Australian burnt one review, hoping to get England’s captain strangled down the leg side but the replay showed it clipped her hip.
Australia get their first wicket as Darcie Brown bowls Maia Bouchier between the gate for one. The opener has had a torrid tour. She has made just 41 runs and averages under seven.
BOWLED.

Ecclestone brings up her five-wicket haul with a simple dismissal of Darcie Brown. The Australian pats one back to the bowler – a simple caught and bowled.
Australia seem to have done their best impression of England, losing their final five wickets for nine runs.
Lauren Filer picks up her second of the match to get the important wicket of Beth Mooney. It moves away slightly. Filer has bowled well this morning and finally gets her reward.
Generous applause from the MCG as Mooney’s innings comes to an end #Ashes pic.twitter.com/xfLhYrky3l

Flight and guile from Ecclestone deceives King to send her back to the pavilion. She falls for just three runs LBW.
Ellyse Perry joins Mooney at the crease, having been demoted down the order due to possible injury.
Lauren Filer strikes Mooney on the front pad, looking to flick into the leg side.
A few questions and shrugs between senior players and Knight signals to send it upstairs.
Clear gap between bat and pad but impact is umpires call so they stay with the not out. Hawk-eye shows that it would have crashed into the middle of middle.
A short ball from Filer catches Mooney’s glove a couple of balls later, but reviews show that it doesn’t quite carry to Jones.
Kim Garth doesn’t stay long. Wafting outside off-stump, Filer finds the outside edge and the all-rounder has to go.
England seem to have found their doppelgängers over night. First, a good stop in the field. Next, a catch taken.
Tallis McGrath uses her feet and looks to hit down the ground but skews it to Lauren Bell at mid-on who takes a simple catch.
Beth Mooney brings up her hundred in emphatic fashion with a textbook cut off Sophie Ecclestone. A fraction short and she pounces, rocking back and knocking it for two.
England dropped her three times yesterday and have paid the price for their missed chances.
It's a Beth Mooney Test match century!
She becomes the first Australian woman to score a hundred in all three formats of the game 🙌#Ashes pic.twitter.com/VLlIgluWHp

Mooney is left stranded on 98*, while Australia take full control of the Test.
Sutherland without a doubt is the star of the day. She smashed 163, her third century in Test cricket, but was backed up by the rest of the XI, chipping in.
On the other hand, poor fielding was the story of England’s day. Seven missed chances and a multitude of misfields contributed to Australia’s total.
Australia lead by 252 and no doubt will be eye up a win tomorrow.
Ash Gardner top edges a shorter ball from Ecclestone and it is taken (just) by Filer. With some help from her chin, she clings on at square leg.
A catch is taken!!
Gardner the unlucky Australian who has to go #Ashes pic.twitter.com/b0J5jCzKJR

With an attendance of 23,563 over the first two days, the day-night Test at the MCG beat the previous record of 23207, set at Trent Bridge in 2023.
A delicate upper cut from Gardner runs away to the rope and Australia reach 400. Their lead is over 230 – surely too much for England to muster? Is the declaration coming tonight?
Gardner wafts at one from MacDonald-Gay and the edge flies at first slip. It goes straight into and straight out of the hands of Ecclestone at slip. Catch number seven goes down…
Not again…
