Abhimanyu Easwaran has been knocking on the doors of the Indian selectors vehemently for quite some time now and the 29-year-old opening bat from Bengal has come another step closer to his dream of an India debut as he was picked for the Border Gavaskar Trophy in late 2024.
The gritty right-hander has been part of India’s Test squads in the recent past thanks to an impressive body of work compiled for over a decade of domestic cricket.

Easwaran featured in the two India A games and has played 100 first-class games in his career so far.

Having made his first-class debut in December 2013 for Bengal, where the cricketing pastures were greener than his home state Uttarakhand which only recently earned a BCCI affiliation, Easwaran has 7657 first-class runs under his belt in 171 innings at an average of 49.4, with a best of 233.

The old-school batter has been in great nick this domestic season, scoring two tons in the Duleep Trophy, another century in the Irani Trophy, and kickstarting the Ranji Trophy season with a hundred for Bengal. India were slated to begin their tour with an unofficial warm-up match against India A in Perth from November 15 to 17. Still, now they’ve opted for simulation training instead on center wickets. They play the first Test against Australia at the Perth Stadium from November 22 to 26.

The caravan moves to Canberra for a tour match against the Prime Minister’s XI on November 30 and December 1, before travelling to Adelaide for the second Test, a day-night game from December 6 to 10. The third Test in Brisbane is scheduled to commence from December 14 to 18, followed by the traditional Boxing Day Test in Melbourne starting December 26 and the New Year’s Test in Sydney from January 3, 2025.
