New Zealand bulwark Kane Williamson will mark his return to Tests in the three-match Test series against England while allrounder Nathan Smith has earned his maiden call-up in the format. He was the standout bowler for Wellington in the Plunkett Shield with 33 wickets at an average of 17.

Williamson sat out New Zealand’s historic 3-0 series win over India last month due to a groin injury which he had sustained in Sri Lanka. The experienced batter underwent rehabilitation to be declared fully fit for the home season, replacing Mark Chapman in the squad.
