A maiden ODI century from Tristan Stubbs was central to South Africa’s huge win in the second ODI against Ireland in Abu Dhabi. Apart from Stubbs, each member of that top six contributed, ushering South Africa to an imposing 343, a total that proved to be way beyond Ireland’s reach as they ended up conceding the series.
South Africa had no hesitation in batting first after winning the toss. Kyle Verreynne, who got a chance in place of Tony de Zorzi, capitalized on it by bringing up a half century. Stubbs looked in good touch as well, crafting a stylish fifty off just 45 balls.
Their authority on the contest was cemented the moment Lungi Ngidi and Lizaad Williams struck early to remove the Ireland openers. All in all, six South African bowlers bowled and every single one of them picked up at least one wicket. Astonishingly, the last three batters added 73 together for Ireland as they managed to yank the score from 85/7 all the way to 169 all out, but the match was long gone, regardless.
