Mohammad Juned Khan nets big fish Ruturaj Gaikwad in Irani Cup

Coming out of a poor run of form, Abhimanyu Easwaran is spearheading Rest of India’s strong response to Mumbai’s mammoth 537 in the Irani Cup as Ranji Trophy holders Mumbai clash with the Rest of India in Lucknow. Dhruv Jurel batted positively towards the end of the day and forged a brisk unbeaten fifty stand with the set batter.

For a change, there’s not much help for the bowlers on the Ekana Stadium’s surface and Mumbai would look to strike with the second new ball which is due soon. ROI still trail by 248 runs and there’s not much batting to come after this pair, so Mumbai will be the happier side at this juncture.

Earlier, Sarfaraz Khan became the fourth-youngest player to score a double-hundred in the tournament. The dynamic right-hander, aged 26 years and 346 days, accomplished the landmark in 253 deliveries on the second day. His Mumbai teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal is the youngest to achieve the feat at 21 years and 63 days.

Pravin Amre (22 years and 80 days) and Gundappa Viswanath (25 years and 255 days) are the other two batters ahead of Sarfaraz on that list.

Sarfaraz ended the second day of the Irani Cup clash unbeaten on 221 runs. This was also the highest score by a Mumbai batter in the Irani Cup, surpassing the 195 runs crafted by Ramnath Parkar in 1972.
