As expected, the weather has interrupted play at the County Ground in Bristol. Australia are clearly ahead in the fifth ODI and they’ll clinch the series if there’s no more play possible.
Chasing 309, the Australian openers wasted no time to get going. Matthew Short was the aggressor and he recorded his maiden ODI fifty off just 23 deliveries. After his departure, Smith was happy to see off Adil Rashid while Inglis batted positively against the pacers. England tried to slow down the proceedings but 20 overs have been completed and Australia have put 165 on the board for the loss of two wickets.
Earlier, when Harry Brook and Ben Duckett were going all guns blazing, it seemed as if England will easily score 350-plus, however, they fell well short of that total. The spinners who had proven to be expensive earlier in the day, turned things around by taking wickets at regular intervals in the second half of the innings.
