Bangladesh batters played their part to lead their side to an epoch-making 2-0 cleansweep in the Test series against Pakistan. This was Bangladesh’s first series win against Pakistan and only their second overseas series win (minimum two matches in a series), with their maiden series triumph on foreign soil coming against West Indies (2-0) back in 2009.
Bangladesh functioned like a well-oiled machine but their victory was orchestrated mainly by their youngsters Hasan Mahmud and Nahid Rana, who picked up nine wickets among them in the second innings to set up the manageable 185-run chase.
Litton Das earned the Man of the Match award for his 138 in the first innings. Mehidy Hasan Miraz bagged the Man of the Series award for his tally of 155 runs and ten wickets. In the first innings of this Test, the two of them occupied the middle when Bangladesh were tottering at 26 for 6 in reply to Pakistan’s 274. Litton scored 138 from No. 7 and Mehidy 78 from No. 8 to usher Bangladesh to 262, keeping the scales of the game in balance.
Brief scores: Pakistan 274 (Saim Ayub 58, Shan Masood 57; Mehidy Hasan Miraz 5-61, Taskin Ahmed 3-57) & 172 (Agha Salman 47*, Mohammad Rizwan 43; Hasan Mahmud 5-43, Nahid Rana 4-44) lost to Bangladesh 262 (Litton Das 138, Mehidy Hasan Miraz 78; Khurram Shahzad 6-90, Agha Salman 2-13) & 185/4 (Zakir Hasan 40, Najmul Hossain Shanto 38; Agha Salman 1-17) by 6 wickets.
