The Birmingham Phoenix beat the Welsh Fire by 93 runs in quite extraordinary fashion on Monday night as Imran Tahir completed the tournament’s first hat-trick off the final ball of the game. The Phoenix had smacked 184 off their 100 balls thanks to the electrifying hitting of Moeen Ali and Will Smeed, and their bowling performance was equally dominant.
Tahir also brought up his five-fer, ending with figures of 5-25 off 19 deliveries. The South African leggie is a born entertainer, celebrating like a madman on each occasion that he takes a wicket, and he accordingly embarked on something of a lap of honour after taking his third in three balls, arms outstretched and the crowd in raptures.
Playing with a huge smile on his face and not taking any opportunity he is given for granted, Tahir is exactly the sort of character that the Hundred was looking for, and seeing him salute the crowd, seemingly quite emotional, it was hard not to be made up for him.
