Faf du Plessis hits four boundaries in an over to get RCB going

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have won the toss and opted to bat in the 2024 Indian Premier League tournament opener at Chennai. Faf du Plessis is serving the mantle of the chief aggressor for the visitors, having taken Deepak Chahar to the cleaners in the second over with three boundaries over the off-side ring and a scintillating pull. Chahar has conceded 24 runs in his two overs as new CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad is put under the pump straightaway.

Gaikwad revealed that his illustrious predecessor MS Dhoni had given him hints regarding a potential leadership switch last year. Just one day prior to the commencement of Indian Premier League 2024, the change was indeed made with Dhoni passing the baton to Gaikwad while still remaining a player.

Though Dhoni has retired from international cricket in 2019, he continues to be a popular figure in the Indian cricketing landscape. The 42-year-old played a crucial role as a captain of CSK by securing five IPL titles for the team. He guided India to victory in the 2007 World Twenty20, the 2011 World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy.
