Bangladesh lynchpin Mushfiqur Rahim ruled out of Sri Lanka Tests

Bangladesh received a huge blow ahead of the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka as Mushfiqur Rahim has been declared unfit for the rubber due to a fractured right thumb. The first Test of the series begins on March 22 in Sylhet while the second game will be played in Chattogram from March 30.

The tourists won the T20I series by a 2-1 margin while the hosts lifted the ODI trophy by a 2-1 margin heading into the Test series which is part of the 2023-25 ICC World Test Championship cycle.

Rahim announced his retirement from Twenty20 internationals in September 2022, stating that he’ll now channelise his focus towards Tests and ODIs. His decision came in the wake of Bangladesh’s exit from the ongoing Asia Cup, where they lost both group stage matches to Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. The senior pro failed to contribute with the bat, managing 4 and 1, and fluffed an important chance of Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis behind the sticks.
