Miller century drives South Africa to respectable 212

David Miller brought up his hundred off 115 balls, hitting 8 fours and 5 sixes en route to a memorable innings in a World Cup knockout but he would rue not batting until the end of 50 overs as his presence could’ve pushed South Africa’s total from respectable to a competitive one. Two balls after reaching the milestone, Miller fell while trying to pull one of the many bumpers that Pat Cummins bowled at him from round the wicket. The catch was taken sharply near the ropes by Travis Head.

Miller’s sixth ODI century, coming on an Eden Gardens surface assisting both seamers and spinners, helped South Africa recover from an alarming 24 for 4 to post 212 after opting to bat. Just when South Africa looked a bit steady after having added 44 runs between overs 21 and 30, Head struck gold in his very first over and returned two wickets off two balls to peg the Proteas back.
