Mohammed Shami removes New Zealand openers in tall chase

India have been given the start they were seeking after posting an enormous 397/4 against New Zealand in the semi-final of ICC World Cup 2023. Mohammed Shami has nicked off both Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra to peg the Blackcaps back in the arduous chase.

Earlier, Virat Kohli scored his record-breaking 50th ODI hundred and Shreyas Iyer notched up his second successive century – off just 67 balls – to lead India to an imposing total. Kohli and Iyer’s brilliance came in the afterglow of Rohit’s fireworks upfront while Gill too was among the runs until the scorching Mumbai heat lent him a bout of cramps.

India hit 110 in the last 10 overs with even New Zealand’s experienced campaigners leaking runs. Trent Boult went for 86 in his 10 overs while Southee leaked 100 as his plan to take pace off didn’t yield the desired results beyond the big wicket of Rohit. Ferguson bowled only 8 for his 65 while the part-time spin duo of Glenn Phillips and Rachin Ravindra gave away 93 in 12 overs between them. India managed to deny Mitchell Santner a wicket, while taking 51 of his 10 overs despite the assistance from the pitch.
