Shubman Gill to miss India’s World Cup fixture against Afghanistan as well

Wunderkind Shubman Gill is set to miss India’s next game in the 2023 World Cup against Afghanistan too, the Board of Control for Cricket in India confirmed on Monday, October 9.

Ruled out of the upcoming fixture at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, Gill will not travel with the Indian team and will instead remain in Chennai where his recovery will be supervised by the medical team.

The 24-year-old opener has been laid low by dengue recently and wasn’t available for India’s campaign opener against Australia at the at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday. In his absence, Ishan Kishan partnered rohit sharma at the top but was dismissed for a duck as Mitchell Starc jolted the Indian top-order in a manageable chase of 200 runs.

After facing Afghanistan on October 11 in Delhi, India will make the trip to Ahmedabad for the blockbuster clash against Pakistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium on October 14.
