All-rounder Washington Sundar is set to link up with the India squad in Colombo for Sunday’s Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka.
The 23-year-old, who bowls canny off-spin and is good enough to bat in the top order of most teams, has been called in as cover for Axar Patel, whose injury is primarily a result of a throw that hit his elbow. He might be rendered unavailable for Sunday’s final if the injury turns out to be serious. However, there is optimism in the Indian quarters that he will not only recover in time for the World Cup but also be fit for the three-match ODI series against Australia, starting on September 22.
Sundar is part of India’s Asian Games squad and is currently in Bengaluru. He is expected to re-join the Asian Games camp after the conclusion of the final. The camp will go on till September 23 before the games commence in Hangzhou, China.
