As the third day’s play during the fifth Ashes Test at The Oval came to a conclusion, Stuart Broad revealed his decision to retire from professional cricket, bringing the curtains down on an illustrious 17-year international career.
Broad, one of only two fast bowlers to achieve the herculean feat of bagging 600 Test wickets, along with compatriot James Anderson, also recently became the third bowler to claim 150+ Test wickets in Ashes history. He will finish as the fifth-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket.
Broad currently has 602 wickets in Test cricket and will be determined to add to his tally during Australia’s chase, while he remained not out to add 8 runs to his tally of 3656 when England resumed their second innings at 389/9. Broad has hitherto picked up eight five wicket hauls and one ten wicket haul. He scalped 178 wickets in the 50-over format, which he played for the last time in 2016 while in 56 T20I matches, the eventual of which came in 2014, Broad managed to take 65 wickets.
