Mitchell Starc dismisses Ben Stokes for 9th time in Tests

The post-lunch session didn’t begin favourably for the visitors as Harry Brook continued to bat in an aggressive vein and Moeen Ali was forced to join the party due to a groin injury. Runs flew from both ends, forcing Pat Cummins to throw the ball to Todd Murphy for the first time in the day. It proved to be an inspired change as the off-spinner struck in his very first over. Moeen, swinging for the fences, lost his poles. It was just the elixir Australia needed to stage a comeback.

Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood soon dovetailed to derail the hosts’ innings. The left-arm pacer overcame a scratchy start with the new ball to produce a beaut that pegged back Ben Stokes’ off stump. The England skipper played down the wrong line to a gem of a delivery that swung away late to rattle timber. Hazlewood then bowled Jonny Bairstow a series of induckers and the keeper-bat eventually chopped one onto the stumps.
