Broad’s third victim, Harry Tector bags a silver duck

Ireland Skipper Andrew Balbirnie and Harry Tector departed in quick succession to leave Ireland in a spot of bother at 19/3 on Day 1 of the four-day Test at Lord’s. Both the batters were out for nought, compounding the worry lines for the tourists who had lost opener Peter Moore cheaply. He fell over in his stance attempting to flick a gentle inswinger bowled by Broad and the umpire had no hesitation in upholding the lbw shout.

Paul Stirling and James McCollum weathered the storm with a 45-run stand for the fourth wicket before the former fell sweeping Jack Leach towards the end of the morning session. The big-hitting customer was eventually dismissed on a 35-ball 30 when he edged a big sweep to wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow.

Lorcan Tucker and McCollum waded through the remaining 25 minutes of play without any further damage and went to Lunch safely on 8 and 29 respectively, with their task cut out at the other end of the interval.
