Daren Sammy appointed West Indies white-ball head coach

Former captain Daren Sammy has been appointed West Indies’ head coach for the two white-ball formats, the board announced on May 12. Sammy will assume the role from the three-match ODI series against the United Arab Emirates in Sharjah in June, ahead of the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 Qualifier tournament in Zimbabwe. Cricket West Indies have named former wicketkeeper-batter Andre Coley as head coach for the Test and the ‘A’ teams. Coley begins with the senior team in the marquee home series against India in July 2023.

Sammy comes into the role after having marshalled West Indies’ to two T20 World Cup triumphs (2012 and 2016). Sammy has coached T20 franchise Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL and St. Lucia Zouks at the CPL. Coley comes with coaching knowhow at all stages of West Indies cricket, and was the interim coach of the side on the tours of Zimbabwe and South Africa earlier this year.
