Having been 97-0 on the stroke of lunch, Rahane’s wreckless running capped off a nervous afternoon for the Indians, initially pegged back by the brilliance of that man James Anderson, taking two wickets in two balls, including that of Virat Kohli for a golden duck.
After an abject batting performance and the stability of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, England looked dead and buried, but what they perhaps lack in run-making ability they made up for with their heart and prowess with the ball. With Rahul defending into the off side and Rahane inconceivably sprinting halfway down the pitch, Bairstow’s direct hit completed something of a turning of the tide after lunch.
