The 2023 season of the Indian Premier League served up a nice reminder that the low-scoring games in the range of 150 can also be really thrilling. Today was a much more even contest between bat and ball, as the pitch was conducive to the bowlers by being two paced. Rajasthan Royals started the chase well, getting to 47 without losing a wicket at the end of the PowerPlay. Infact, they didn’t lose a wicket till the 12th over, as both openers moved into their thirties.
But then Lucknow Super Giants struck through Marcus Stoinis, who proved to be the game changer. The Australian all-rounder got the wickets of both the set batters. Boundaries dried up as LSG began exerting pressure. Shimron Hetmyer couldn’t pull off any heroics this time around, and Devdutt Padikkal and Riyan Parag tried hard at the end, but perhaps ate up too many balls in the process. Naveen-ul-Haq was the standout bowler for LSG, who despite not picking a wicket was frugal, conceding just 19 off his four overs. In the final over, Avesh Khan held his nerve to get the visitors home.
