(Video) Marcus Trescothick’s claims he is “not worried” about England’s top order are as worrying as England’s top order

In a virtual press conference after the first day of England’s Test series against India, Marcus Trescothick, the home team’s batting coach, said that he was “not worried” about his side’s top order. He mentioned that the Indian opposition are as potent as anyone in the world, and that England had failed to display their talent on day one.

Trescothick is obviously not going to come out and lambast his players after a tough day at the office, but many England fans will be calling for something of a change-up, be it to personnel or philosophy, after what feels like one batting collapse too many in the context of years of underachievement at the crease. The former Somerset opener’s calmness will not encourage many that a transformation is on the horizon.
