Andre Russell strikes twice in his first over of IPL 2023

Andre Russell had been playing as a specialist batter in IPL 2023 hitherto but he was thrown the ball for the first time against Sunrisers Hyderabad and the all-rounder struck a double whammy in his maiden over of the season. Kolkata Knight Riders have failed to pick any more wickets with Hyderabad moving to 85 after 9 overs.

Yesterday, Punjab Kings got stuck between overs 10 and 15 to end up with an underwhelming total of 153/8. They just couldn’t get going in the middle phase, and the inability to accelerate proved their downfall as Gujarat Titans overhauled the 154-run target, with Shubman Gill anchoring the chase brilliantly.

Even the 150-plus total was possible because Shahrukh Khan walked out swinging and was able to ransack 22 runs off just 9 balls. While Rashid Khan put a stop to Matthew Short’s adventurous stint with a googly that the Australian failed to read. Mohit Sharma made a fabulous comeback in the IPL to return a spell of 2 for 18 in 4 overs.
