Virat Kohli utilizes Jofra Archer’s pace to dispatch a short ball

Royal Challengers Bangalore began IPL 2023 with a bang, swatting aside Mumbai Indians on Sunday, April 2. Yuzvendra Chahal picked up four wickets as Mumbai Indians staged a fine recovery to post 172, but RCB got over the line without much fuss thanks to a massive 148-run opening partnership between openers Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli.

While Kohli was particularly severe against Jofra Archer, du Plessis smashed Jason Behrendorff for consecutive sixes as RCB raced to 53 for no loss in the powerplay. Du Plessis took the attack to Cameron Green after the powerplay and consigned the youngster to 17 in an over before hammering Hrithik Shokeen for successive sixes that brought up his fifty. Kohli then cleared the ropes to bring up the hundred stand as RCB continued to dominate the chase. RCB galloped to 139 in just 14 overs, and the stand was finally broken by young Arshad Khan which was then followed by Dinesh Karthik’s departure for a duck. But Kohli and Glenn Maxwell ensured the finishing touches were applied.
