Reece Topley dislocates shoulder in RCB campaign opener

With clouds already hanging over the participation of Rajat Patidar and Josh Hazlewood in Indian Premier League 2023, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s injury woes have compounded as left-arm quick Reece Topley dislocated his shoulder while fielding during the campaign opener against Mumbai Indians.

Topley bagged the crucial wicket of Cameron Green in his two-over spell in the PowerPlay. While diving to cut off a run, Topley’s knee dug into the turf, causing him to land awkwardly on his shoulder. RCB’s Director of Cricket, Mike Hesson, stated that the medical team was able to align Topley’s shoulder back in place, and he left for scans. Hesson hoped the injury was not serious, as Topley has had an annoying tryst with injuries throughout his career.

Speaking on RCB’s YouTube channel, Hesson expressed optimism. “When it happens, it is not a good thing, so we hope that the initial reports come back nicely and Reece can join us. If not, then obviously we will have to see what happens.” Dinesh Karthik also provided an update about Topley’s injury, stating that Topley had a scan during the game itself and was not suffering as much as they had initially thought. David Willey is a part of the squad if RCB have to consider a replacement.
