Arshad Khan biffs Harshal Patel over mid-wicket

Mumbai Indians were ushered to a competitive 171/7 by Tilak Varma against Royal Challengers Bangalore in their opening IPL match in Bengaluru on Sunday. Tilak Varma bailed out the five-time champions from a hole, compiling a stellar fifty to add to his rising stocks.

Inserted, the five-time champions endured a poor start, but Varma, coming off a good last season, held fort with an unbeaten 46-ball 84. The youngster showed great temperament and skill tonight to yank Mumbai Indians out of a hole.

Royal Challengers Bangalore had reduced Mumbai Indians to 20/3 in 5.2 overs after skipper Faf du Plessis opted to bowl, but Varma added 50 and 48 with Nehal Wadhera (21) and Arshad Khan (15 not out) for the fifth and eighth wickets respectively to give Mumbai Indians a competitive total to play with. Virat Kohli and his troops will be disappointed to have let things slip away, but they know with the firepower of their batting, they can chase the target down on a short ground.
