Chennai meet defending champions in IPL 2023 opener

The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League kicks off with a high-octane clash between defending champions Gujarat Titans and and four-time winners Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 31.

Led by Hardik Pandya, Gijarat Titans weren’t initially considered the favourites last season but played some excellent cricket throughout their campaign to clinch the trophy in their debut season. They have bolstered their squad by adding some high-quality players like Odean Smith, Kane Williamson and Shivam Mavi via the mini-auction last year. Gujarat Titans will be hoping to keep up the good work and pick up from where they left.

CSK punched below their weight last year, finishing with only four wins in 14 encounters. Ravindra Jadeja stepped down as skipper after a nightmarish start to IPL 2022. However, they have made a couple of significant reinforcements by drafting in Ben Stokes and Ajinkya Rahane in the squad.
