Delhi Capitals advance to Women’s Premier League final

An impressive allround show from young Alice Capsey was central to Delhi Capitals sealing a direct passage to the final of the inaugural Women’s Premier League. Following Mumbai Indians’ win over Royal Challengers Bangalore earlier in the day, DC needed to win in order to ensure they finish on top of the points table. Their bowlers were on the money right from the word go, setting up the comfortable five-wicket win over UP Warriorz.

Knowing they needed to gun down 139 in 19.4 overs to advance to the final, Capitals got the start the doctor ordered. Meg Lanning took on Shabnim Ismail in the very first over of the chase as the South African pacer ended up leaking 20 runs. Even as Shafali Verma kicked off her innings on a positive note, Lanning was the aggressor in chief and raced to 37 off just 20 by the end of the powerplay. Shafali departed for 21 but a rich harvest of 67 runs in the powerplay meant the result was a foregone conclusion.
